Book launch of MM Lee's "Keeping My Mandarin Alive"

"It is not just learning the language. With the language goes the fables and proverbs. It is learning a whole value system, a whole philosophy of life, that can maintain the fabric of our society, in spite of exposure to all the current madness around the world".

Minister Mentor LEE Kuan Yew (5 Nov 1972)

World Scientific & Global Publishing (a subsidiary of World Scientific) are honoured and proud to be the Publishers of "Keeping My Mandarin Alive" - Lee Kuan Yew's language learning experience.

The book was officially launched on 2 June 2005, when Minister Mentor Lee (MM Lee) officiated the event as the Guest-of-Honour.

The theatre at Suntec Convention Centre was filled with guests - from high-powered CEOs, to students from Singapore's schools, and even retired homemakers. All were there for the same purpose - to personally hear from MM Lee why he remains passionate about keeping his Mandarin alive, and learning the Chinese language despite the fact that his journey started more than 50 years ago.

Guests at the book launch were treated to a DVD presentation edited with highlights from the interview with MM Lee on this book project. However, the most profound and meaningful portion of the event took place when MM Lee shared with the audience, in both English and Mandarin, his personal philosophy on why learning the Chinese language was important, and keeping it alive through the regular use of Chinese was essential.

World Scientific would like to take this opportunity to congratulate MM Lee and Dr Chua Chee Lay, the Editor of the book, on the success of this project. We hope that this book will inspire others to adopt a wider perspective on the importance of learning the Chinese language.
